Milagu Kuzhambu

Pepper (Milagu) - 2 tbsp.
Red Chillies - 3
Hing (Asafoetida) – ¼ tsp
Tamarind - a small lemon size
Uardh dal - 1 tbsp
Coconut – 1 tbsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds (vendayam )- 1/4 tsp
Gingili Oil - 3 tb sp
Curry leaves - 5 to 6 sprigs
Jaggery small pc (optional)
Salt to taste

Paruppu Thogayal

Toor Dal 1/2 Cup
Oil 2 tbsp
Coconut (grated) 4 tb sp
Hing 1 pinch
Salt to taste

Milagu Kuzhambu
• Soak, strain and collect thick tamarind juice and keep it aside.
• Heat the frying pan with 1 tbsp of oil. Fry pepper, red chillies, Uradh gram dal, coconut and curry leaves. Grind this into a fine paste by adding small amount of water.
• Heat the frying pan with 2 tablespoonful of oil and add mustard and fenugreek seeds and when mustard stops crackling add few curry leaves, Hing and extracted tamarind juice.
• Add turmeric powder and the grounded paste and mix well. Add jaggery to it (optional).
• Cook till the raw smell goes off and add salt to taste. Boil till oil separates and floats on top.
• Serve with steamed rice and pappad and it tastes best when served with parruppu thogayal.

Paruppu Thogayal

• Heat the frying pan with 2 tbsp of oil. Fry toor dal, and hing. Grind this along with grated coconut and salt into a fine paste by adding small amount of water.
