1 ½ cups butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Powdered sugar for rolling out dough

Directions:
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
2. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
3. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt.
4. Cover and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight)
5. Preheat oven to 400ºF.
6. Roll out dough on a surface dusted with powdered sugar between to sheets of wax paper ¼ to ½ inch thick (a dowel helps to keep it even).
7. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter (you will want to bake different shapes separately)
8. Place cookies 1 inch apart on cookie sheets with parchment paper or a Silpat.
9. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven.
10. Cool completely before decorating, frosting is not necessary with these.

I increased the vanilla and used powdered sugar instead of flour to keep the dough from sticking
