2 1/2 cup flour
2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine(without water added)
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. milk
extra sugar for patting down cookies

Directions:

Sift dry ingredients.
Cream shortenings, sugar & vanilla.
Add flour & 2 tbsp. of milk. Drop by teaspoon on ungreased pan & pat down with glass dipped in sugar.
Bake for 12 minutes at 400º.

I have also added finely chopped pecans, they taste a lot like "Pecan Sandies".
This recipe is from the early 1960's. My friend Frannie got it from a baking soda box. The are terrific.
