Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Cake
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
2 eggs
2 ounces red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbs. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vinegar
2 1/2 cup cake flour, sifted into measuring cup
Frosting
1 cup milk -2% or whole
1 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. flour
1 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter & add sugar. Beat in eggs. In a small dish add a small amount of the coloring to the cocoa & mix. Then add the rest of coloring & add to the creamed butter. Next add the buttermilk alternately with the cake flour, ending with flour. Then the vanilla. Last, in small dish, mix the vinegar & soda until foaming & fold into the cake mixture.
Bake in two 8 or 9inch round cake pans sprayed with Pam, at 350º for 30 minutes. Cool on rack for 10 minutes in pan & then remove onto racks. When completely cooled, cut each cake to make 4 layers.

Frosting - Cook milk & flour in microwave for 1 min. at a time, until thick, stirring with a whip. Then cool in the refrigerator covered with wax paper.
Cream butter & sugar until creamy & fluffy. It takes a long time. Add vanilla. Next add the cooled flour mixture and beat a long time until nice & fluffy and all the sugar granules are dissolved.
Frost the layers & top of the cake, but not the sides.
Store cake covered in the refrigerator.

This cake is as pretty as it is delicious. It's the cake that Rachel & Ryan requested every year for their birthday!
