Directions:Put chicken, water, salt & pepper in a pan and bring to a boil. Turn heat down to low or med. low and simmer 20-30 min. or until tender. Remove chicken to a plate, let cool, then cut up & set aside. You may need to strain bits from broth. Make flour & water thickening. Turn broth up to high and add soup base. Start with 1 tbsp. Add noodles & when about done stir in the thickening & a couple drops of yellow food coloring. Taste to see if it needs more soup base, then stir in the chicken. Pour this into a cake pan and place biscuits on top. Bake according to biscuit temperature. When tops are brown, turn over and bake the other side until done. Remove from oven and chow down! |

Notes: I usually made sunshine jello salad with this. Rachel wanted me to enter this recipe because Mom & Zip really liked it, but mainly because of the story that goes with it. Zip had a little spiral notebook he kept on the front seat of the car. He had a rubber band around it to keep it open at the current page with a pen. Whenever they were traveling and ate at someone's house, he would write down what was served and how he liked it. I don't know, maybe he did this all the time and not just when they were traveling?! Anyway, Rachel saw the notebook on the front seat of the Cadillac, and it said, creamed chicken and biscuits excellent! But the bed was terrible!! I don't know what possessed the man, but, oh well!! There is one more story with this recipe - Joan & Bob came to visit us the first time we lived in Des Moines. We had a few beers and I was making the creamed chicken & biscuits. I put the food coloring in it and everything turned bright orange! I had grabbed the orange instead of yellow. Joan and I were cracking up. I served Bob his plate and he said, "What the hell is this." I told him I put the orange food coloring in for Halloween, it was about a week or so before Halloween. Anyway, he bought it, and Joan and I were dying trying to keep a straight face. I could hardly eat the stuff - the color really turned me off!!
