Apple Squares (Nancy's) Recipe

Ingredients: |
Ingredients: Crust- 2 1/2 c. flour 1 c. butter flavor Crisco 1 1/2 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 egg yolk with milk to make 1/2 cup 1 1/2 c. or so of crushed corn flakes
Filling - 7 or 8 c. sliced apples 1 c. sugar or less if apples are sweet cinnamon as desired
Frosting - Nancy uses a thinner powdered sugar frosting.

Directions:Mix together crust ingredients except corn flakes, divide dough in half. Roll out one half and put in 11 x 17 jelly roll pan. Sprinkle corn flakes over crust. Spread apples next, sprinkle sugar & cinnamon. Roll out second half & put top crust on & seal edges. Put a few cuts on top crust to vent. Bake at 350º for about 35 minutes. While still warm, but not steaming hot, spread the frosting on. |

Notes: This is Nancy Schmidt's recipe. These apple squares are great! Our whole family loves them. Be patient when making the crust. It will tear easily, just keep patching it up. I usually say a few unpleasant words!! I tried making these bars with refrigerated pie crust dough. It didn't compare. The crust really makes it, so guess I'll just keep saying unpleasant words!!
