Crust-
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. butter flavor Crisco
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt 1 egg yolk with milk to make 1/2 cup
1 1/2 c. or so of crushed corn flakes

Filling -
7 or 8 c. sliced apples
1 c. sugar or less if apples are sweet
cinnamon as desired

Frosting - Nancy uses a thinner powdered sugar frosting.

Mix together crust ingredients except corn flakes, divide dough in half. Roll out one half and put in 11 x 17 jelly roll pan. Sprinkle corn flakes over crust. Spread apples next, sprinkle sugar & cinnamon. Roll out second half & put top crust on & seal edges. Put a few cuts on top crust to vent.
Bake at 350º for about 35 minutes. While still warm, but not steaming hot, spread the frosting on.

This is Nancy Schmidt's recipe. These apple squares are great! Our whole family loves them. Be patient when making the crust. It will tear easily, just keep patching it up. I usually say a few unpleasant words!! I tried making these bars with refrigerated pie crust dough. It didn't compare. The crust really makes it, so guess I'll just keep saying unpleasant words!!
