5 lb Crackling (Refer to lard recipe)
1 can of Lewis Lye
Rain water.. 2 1/2 pints first day...
Rain water.. 1 1/2 gal hot rain water second day

Directions:

Mix above three ingredients in a granite kettle.
LET STAND OVERNIGHT
Second day add 1/1/2 gal. hot rain water
boil 30 min. stir.
Pour into pans at least 2 in deep.
Let set.
Cut into squares

Mom helped Grandma make this when she was growing up. Mom said Grandma did not like to waste anything. When making the lard, the cracklings were used from the lard. Nothing was ever wasted.
