1 c. chopped dates
1 t soda
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. butter
11/2 c. flour
1c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle soda over dates and pour the boiling water over them. Set aside to cool.
Cream sugar and butter, add egg. fold in flour and date mixture alternately. Last; fold in nuts.
Spray a 8" square baking pan. Pour in batter. Put in a preheated oven at 350.

When Mom fell and hurt her hip about three years ago, I would try to go bake her something on Thursdays for her card club. One week I baked her "The Date Nut Cake". When I showed it to her she said, "Well I'm not serving that to them, put it in the cupboard and hide it , that's MY favorite.
