Cake:
2 c. sugar
1c. butter
2 eggs
2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg (can eliminate this & add an extra 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon if you don't like nutmeg)
2 tsp. baking soda
4 c. unpeeled, chopped, apples
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Butter Sauce:
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 tbs. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. hot water
1/4 c. butter
2 tsp. vanilla

Bake @ 350 for 30-35 minutes. Spray 9 x 13 pan with Pam. Cream together the sugar, butter and eggs. In separate bowl mix the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and baking soda, and add to creamed mixture. Then add the apples & nuts and stir by hand.
Butter Sauce: mix sugar,cornstarch & salt together. Then add hot water, butter, & vanilla. Place over low-medium heat until hot, bubbling, and thickened. Beat with a whisk while it's cooking. Spoon hot sauce over each individual piece of cake. It's best if cake is warm when you put sauce on. You can zap each piece in microwave if it gets, cold then put hot sauce on.

This cake is really delicious. It's a good one to bake for company because you can make it ahead & freeze. The sauce & cake both freeze great.
