3 c. white sugar
1/2 c. water
1 c. 2% or whole milk
3 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tbsp. white Karo syrup (mom didn't use this)
1/2 c. chopped black walnuts or English

Directions:
Directions:
Cook 1/2 cup of sugar in a skillet until it browns. Then add 1/2 c. water & cook until only 1/2 c. is left. Cool. Then add 2 1/2c. sugar & the karo syrup. Cook to soft boil. Take off heat & add the butter, vanilla & nuts. Beat until thick enough to spread in a buttered pie plate. Cool at room temp.

This is my favorite of mom's candies. It's a tricky one to make and most of the time it kind of sugars. That last few years mom made this, she did it in the microwave, or part of it, & it was nice & creamy. I don't know how she did it though. I tried and it didn't turn out to well. If this recipe isn't right, someone let me know.
