First, wait for it to rain. Some people like to use city water or even a cistern, but I like to catch the rain in my mouth and deposit it directly into a pot.

Then I take the pot and set it on the stove. I don't turn on the stove, because that would use electricity and not be as green. Plus, you save miniscule amount of water by not boiling it.

Than I take the pot of water and carefully pour it into a baking pan. I like to use oven mitts because the pot and pan are at room temperature...Be careful!

Once the water is in the pan, I place the whole pan into the freezer. It's always good to wear a scarf and have your cell phone handy, just in case you get trapped inside.

I allow the pan of water to sit in the freezer for 8 hours per half pound of water, or until frozen all the way through. Putting a small fish in the pan is a good way to check for solid freezing.

Once frozen solid, I take the whole pan up onto the roof and drop it on the driveway.

Finally, I collect the broken shards of ice and they are ready to go into any beverage you want to keep cold! (Or onto that knee that hurts after jumping off the roof because the ladder fell over.)

I hope you enjoy this recipe. It's been in my family for thousands of microseconds.
