1/2 c. Crisco shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
2 T. cocoa
2 1/4 c. flour
1 scant tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. butter flavoring
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 T. vinegar

Frosting:
1 1/2 sticks oleo
3/4 c. Crisco shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 1/2 T. flour
1 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. white vanilla
Directions:
Directions:
Mix together shortening, sugar, eggs, flour, salt, vanilla, butter flavoring, and buttermilk. Make a paste with cocoa and red food coloring and add to mixture. Beat well. Alternately add baking soda and vinegar to mixture and stir gently. Pour in greased and floured cake pans and bake 350º in preheated oven for about 30 min. Cool before frosting,

Frosting:
Cream together oleo, shortening, and sugar. Add flour, milk, and vanilla and beat about 7 minutes or until smooth and creamy. Spread on cool cake.
