1 c. butter (softened)
1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
3/4 c. walnuts (chopped)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/8 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix butter, sugar, and vanilla together thoroughly. Sift salt and flour together separately and stir into wet ingredients. Add chopped nuts. Chill dough. Roll into 1" balls and place about 2 1/2" apart on a ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 325º for about 20 minutes or until they are set, but not brown. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar.

This was one of Mom's (Teresa) standard Christmas cookies. It depended on what she was baking them for as to what she would call them. At Christmas they were called "Snowballs."
