1 ¼ lbs. Apples
granulated sugar, optional
1 cup rye or pumpernickel breadcrumbs
½ cup minus 1Tbsp. Brown sugar
¼ cup butter
2 or 3 ounces grated chocolate, sweet or semi-sweet
½ cup whipping cream

Directions:
Directions:
Peel, core and slice apples. Cook, with a little sugar, if desired, plus a little water until apples become sauce. Mix breadcrumbs and brown sugar; sauté gently in butter until crisp. Fill a glass serving dish, 8 ½ inches in diameter with alternate layers of crumbs and apples, beginning and ending with crumbs. Sprinkle with chocolate. Serve cold, decorated with whipped cream. Serves 6.
