Ingredients: “Vera’s Version”
1 8 oz. pkge. cream cheese 2 sticks butter 1 cup sugar 6 eggs 2 Tblspn. vanilla 5 Tblspn. baking powder 5 cups flour
Frosting:
˝ box confectioner’s sugar ˝ stick butter

Directions:Soften butter and cream cheese together. Add sugar, eggs, vanilla. Cream until smooth. Add the flour and baking powder. Chill for 1 or 2 hours. Shape them into knots. Bake @ 350 degrees. For frosting Directions: Anisette flavoring, or almond flavoring or even lemon extract. Melt butter, add to sugar and extract. If too thick, add a little milk. Dip tops of cookies into icing and decorate with sprinkles.
I like the almond flavoring the best!

Notes: These cookies were baked for special occasions such as weddings, graduations, anniversaries, and especially Easter. My grandmother would put a white sheet on her dining room table and the entire table would be full of cookies. Mom made them often in Nashville because my friends all loved them, especially when we used almond extract instead of anise. I made them at Christmas and gave some as gifts. It's a great dunking cookie!
